Plastic Piping Systems in the Iron and Steel Industry

STEULER-KCH develops, manufactures and installs piping systems made from glass fibre reinforced plastic (GRP), either with or without a chemical-resistant lining, for use in the iron and steel industry.

Our pipes are used primarily where highly corrosive media need to be transported and where conventional materials fail. Due to their extremely high resistance, KERAVERIN® dual-laminate piping systems, made of GRP with a thermoplastic lining, are especially suitable for handling the mixed acids used in the pickling process.

We use the following thermoplastics as liner materials for our dual-laminate material systems:

  • Polypropylene (PP)
  • Unplasticised polyvinyl chloride (PVC-U)
  • Post-chlorinated PVC (PVC-C)
  • Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF)
  • Ethylene chlorotrifluoroethylene (ECTFE)

The name of our dual-laminate system is KERAVERIN®. These pipes comply with the applicable DIN standard 16965 part 2/ pipe type B.Our pipes without thermoplastic lining are covered under part 4/ pipe type D as GRP pipes with a chemical-resistant layer (KERAPOLIN®), or under part 5/ pipe type E as highly chemically resistant pipes with a high resin content (ALPHACOR®).

The operating temperature range is between -50 °C and approximately 200 °C, depending on the composite material used.

Our standard portfolio comprises products with nominal diameters from DN 25 to DN 1000, with the grading of the standard nominal pressure varying, depending on the nominal diameter, and starting at PN 16. We're well equipped to handle large formats too: we can fabricate items up to 5.5 m in diameter.

We can also supply flame retardant material systems suitable for use in areas with increased fire risk. Our pipes can be fabricated to be compliant with pressure equipment directives. We are also certified according to module H/H1.

STEULER-KCH's experienced specialists are there to provide you with expert assistance, from the initial consultation through to final assembly – in Germany and around the world. Our particular strength lies in consultancy: we work closely with our customers to select the combination of materials (liner, fibre reinforcement, resin matrix, etc.) best suited for the chemical, mechanical and thermal stresses expected in the plant. We develop custom combinations of materials in close consultation with our customers from the iron and steel industry.

The range of services we offer includes a plausibility check regarding design and materials and project support to ensure smooth and timely implementation, even for complex projects. We're flexible: alteration and customisation of the supplied pipes is possible at any time – even following delivery. Our after-sales service gives our customers the opportunity to share their experiences of completed projects, to learn about current product developments and if desired, to have the installed products inspected and evaluated.
